FIRST FEMALE COMMANDER HITS THE GROUND RUNNING American Legion Post 148 in Co- lonial Beach elected its first female Commander, Margaret "Trudy" Stiles. Trudy as she likes to be called, is a United States Army veteran. Her love of the American Legion, her community, state and nation made her an excellent candidate for elec- tion. Almost immediately Command- er Stiles hit the ground running as she had a formal installation of her new officers, orchestrated a float for the River Fest Parade honoring our POW/MIAs, and veterans visiting Caf6 148 during the 50s. Soon there- after she performed a dedication of a new flagpole, performed a sol- emn flag disposal ceremony for old and tattered flags collected from the community, rejuvenated the POW/ MIA Empty Chair ceremony at the post home, and had the sad duty of performing an American Legion Sti es Service for a departed comrade. Her endless energy, willingness to go above and beyond and love of Post 148 and all its members has gained the respect of her fellow comrades. Her dedication to the American Legion has also gained her recogni- tion on the District and State levels. Commander Stiles has definitely made a difference leading members to get more involved with American Legion Programs and activities with- in the post home. One member was quoted as say- ing, "This is going to be one of the best years we ever had."
