i: 6 / z Obituaries Marian J. Caruthers Mrs. Marian J. Camthers, 50, of Colonial Beach died after a long illness Thursday, July 5, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. A King George Couuty native, Seventh Annual Colonial Crafts Festival at Birthplace George Washington Birthplace National Monument will sponsor its Seventh Annual Colonial Crafts Festival on Saturday, July 14th from 10:00a.m. to4:00p.m. Over 30 different craftspeople are ex- pected to be on hand in the park's historic area. Each year this unique event al- lows visitors to see a number of different early crafts as demon- strated by various private craftspersons. Limited only to handicrafts which are colonial in origin and execution these talented artisans show and explain the production processes involved as well as offer for sale examples of their labor. Woodworking, rug "naking, basketry, broom making, and even beekeeping are just a few of the many activities planned for the day. George Washington Birthplace National Monument is located 38 miles east of Fredericksburg, Virginia via route 3 and Popes Creek Road. Admission is free for this special event. In the event of inclement weather some activi- ties may be curtailed. For more information contact the park at 804/224-1732. CB Rescue Squad On Sunday, July 15, the Colo- nial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad will host an EMS district meeting. Many Rescue Squads from District 10 will be visiting "Colonial Beach for the day to at- tend meetings and to participate in various rescue competitions and training. There will be several .... simulated demonstrations around town such as auto extrication, water rescue, scuba diving, etc. Please don't be alarmed if you see such activities taking place. Rally Services The First Baptist Church, 615 Jackson St., Colonial Beach will hold Annual Rally Services, Sun- day, July 15, at 4 p.m. Senior Pastor George N. Bum- bry will conduct the 11:30 a.m. services. Dinner will be served from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at 4 p.m. guest preacher will be Pastor Carl A. Baltimore of the Ship of Zion Baptist Church, Alexandria. Hiscongregationwill accompany him. Pastor Baltimore will again conduct the Annual Revival Serv- ices scheduled, Monday, July 16 to Friday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. nightly accompanied by area church choirs. II Mrs. Caruthers was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach. Survivors include her husband, William R. Caruthers; two sons, Raymond T. and Patrick B. Caruthers; two daughters, Mrs. Donna C. Hirschmann and Mrs. Loft C. Bedcnbaugh; her father, Robert E. Jones; her mother, Mrs. Marion E. Jefferson; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Caruthers' body was do- nated to medical science. There will be no visitation or funeral service. The family requests that expres- sions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dcnni- son St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443. Homecoming Day Sunday, July 15, will be ob- served as the annual Homecom- ing Day by the Oak Grove Baptist Church of Oak Grove. The serv- ices for the day will begin with Sunday School at 9:45, followed by the morning worship hour at 11:00. After morning worship, dinner will be served to all present in the church fellowship hall. Special revival services will begin Sunday night at 7:30 and will continue each night through Wednesday. The guest evangelist for all of these services will be the Rev. John Marks, pastor of the Swift Creek Baptist Church, Midlothian, Va. Rev. Marks has a great rapport with everyone and especially with children. He is a ventriloquist and will be using his puppet named "Pic" to share each night in the services.
