The group consists of a pair of bookends and two small vases, one of which is not pictured, and each of which has damage. One has a slight chip on the bot- tom rim, and the other has a corner that has been broken off and glued back together. The bookends are in excellent HENRY LANE condition. HULL The Roseville Pottery Compa- ny was founded in Roseville Ohio in 1890, and con- tinued to produce works until clos- ing in 1953. The wares included a wide variety of items that were utili- tarian and decorative. In 1898 the company moved to Zanesville, Ohio, but retained the Roseville name. In 1900 the firm expanded from : stoneware flowerpots to the art pot- ' tery market with its renowned matte finish pieces that became part of the Arts and Crafts movement across the scene of American decorative arts. These pieces appear to be in the Bleeding Heart pattern, which the company introduced in 1940. ~he bookends are not as abundant as other items made by the company, and should have great appeal to col- lectors.
